The JECCC urges everyone 50 and over to be screened for colon cancer. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., but it preventable with early detection.
March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. During March, the JECCC participates in the Colon Cancer Crusade by providing free screening kits. The free screening kits are also available at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal Clinic, Hannibal Regional Medical Group, all area pharmacies, or call 800-684-2733 to have a free kit mailed to your home.
Risk factors for colon cancer include age, personal history of colorectal polyps, personal history of inflammatory bowel disease, family history of colorectal cancer, certain inherited syndromes, race or ethnic background, or lifestyle factors such as diet, alcohol use, obesity, activity level, or smoking.
